This book is an attempt to impress upon the practicing teachers examiners, paper setters and examining agencies that technology of paper setting is now well developed. They would surely realize after reading this book that paper setting is not an easy task. Foundations of paper setting are laid in the philosophy, sociology, psychology, science, pedagogy and ecology of examinations which has to be understood and appreciated. In Section 1, first chapter or foundations of paper setting is included for discussion of philosophical and other bases of paper setting. Second chapter which indeed is the first step in the preparation of a question paper. Third chapter is to frame questions on the basis of the blue print developed earlier. For this qualities of a good question, paradigm for developing guidelines for the same are given in fourth chapter. Accordingly technique of writing of multiple choice items, short answer questions essay type questions, diagrammatic questions and structured questions are discussed in chapter five to nine. Development of marking schemes is the next step. Chapter ten on marking schemes. Chapter eleven deals with consolidation of questions into a pre-determined format in which questions are grouped, ordered, numbered and instructions prepared. Last chapter is devoted to evaluation of a question paper wherein criteria of a good test covering concepts like validity, reliability and item - analysis are discussed. In Section II, guidelines for candidates include how to prepare, remember and answer MCQ's.
